Well the story isn’t quite as exciting as one might think. Back in the summer of 2003 I knew I wanted my own “domain” and so I needed to find a name I liked. I tried variations of my name, but just couldn’t seem to find anything that I liked that wasn’t already taken.
So day after day I went around (slightly obsessed with this project) and put .com at the end of everything I saw – street signs, names, billboard wordings – just to find something I liked. One day I am sitting at a red light with a few CD’s that I had just ordered from CD Baby of artists that were going to be on The Rock Boat cruise that I was going to be going on in a couple of weeks. I had never really heard anything by any of these people, so I was just scanning down the backs of the CD’s putting .com at the end of all the different song titles.
After going thru 2 or 3 CD’s I came across the CD Saturn Returns by Alex Woodard. I read thru the first three songs and nothing. And then I scanned the fourth song – Other Than Roses and added .com to the end. I paused, but then kept going. At the next light I read it over again. I kinda liked it. So I took the cellophane wrapper off the CD and opened it and popped it into the car player. I liked the song, got home and emailed Alex and asked if I could use “OtherThanRoses” as my domain name. He said SURE!To view the lyrics and his explanation of the song – go here
